FDA finds new batch of fake Avastin in US.
The Wall Street Journal (4/4, Rockoff, Weaver, Subscription Publication) reports another fake batch of the cancer drug bevacizumab [Avastin] was found by the US Food and Drug Administration circulating in the US. "The phony medicine was found packaged in boxes labeled as Altuzan, the brand name for Avastin in Turkey, and was apparently distributed by a different network from an earlier bogus supply, the FDA said in a news release," USA Today (4/4, Winter) reports. "The FDA said packaging or vials that claim to be Altuzan with lot number B6021 should be considered counterfeit." The agency also said that "US practices bought Altuzan and 'other unapproved products' from foreign sources, particularly Richards Pharma, also known as Richards Services, Warwick Healthcare Solutions, or Ban Dune Marketing Inc (BDMI)."
